Turks rally to knock off Generals
Four unearned runs in the ninth capped a five-run Harrisonburg rally that lifted the Turks to a 3-2 win over Waynesboro Friday night.
The Generals had led most of the way, jumping out to a 2-0 margin in the third on a two-out, two-run double by Chase Worthington.
A Tyler McFarland homer in the seventh brought Harrisonburg to within 2-1. The Turks tied it in the eighth on an RBI fielder’s choice by Jay Gonzalez. Waynesboro retook the lead at 3-2 on a two-out double by Scott Wilcox that scored Travis Echols, but Wilcox was thrown out at third trying to extend the hit to a triple.
The ninth was a nightmare for the Generals defensively, as two errors opened up the floodgates for the five-run Turks ninth that brought Harrisonburg all the way back.
Andrew Reck (0-1) took the tough-luck loss in relief of starter TJ Page, who gave up two runs on three hits in seven-plus innings.
Ryan Chapman (2-0) got the win in relief for Harrisonburg. Starter Niko Spezial had a solid night, giving up two runs, both unearned, on four hits in seven innings.

The guys still played well yesterday, believe me I know the Turks will be one of the top teams this year and we had them shut down for 6 innings with 0 runs and just the mental errors costing us. Tonight, defeat the Winchester Royals which is a team we haven’t defeated at Winchester since June 23, 2008. Dating back to 4 straight games there and lost 7 straight vs Winchester. So its time to change that, like we did at Staunton. Regroup and focus guys and be patient.
GO GENERALS!
