What do we know about the ’11 Generals?
We just passed the one-quarter mark of the 2011 season. One lap down, three to go, so what do we know about these Waynesboro Generals?
- The offense is still trying to find its way. The team is hitting .246, good for ninth in the 12-team Valley League. The team on-base percentage at .333 is 10th in the league, and the slugging percentage, an absymal .294, is 12th. Ugh.
Key performers: Chase Worthington (.390/.435/.415, 0 HR, 8 RBI); Jordan Walton (.326/.426/.413, 0 HR, 4 RBI); MJ Sartin (.282/.326/.359, 0 HR, 9 RBI).
- The pitching staff has had its moments, but struggles this week have ballooned the team ERA to 4.20, eighth in the league.
Key performers: T.J. Page (0-0, 1.80 ERA, 15 IP, .102 opponent batting average); Nate Young (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 IP); Cameron Finch (2-0, 2.70 ERA).
- Areas for improvement
Holding runners on: Stolen bases have been a problem for Generals batteries – the 26 steals surrendered by the Generals (in 30 attempts) are tops in the league.
Clutch hitting: The .234 team batting average with runners on base is second worst in the league.
