Covington Tops Waynesboro 3-2

With strong pitching coming from both sides, the Covington Lumberjacks were able to hang in and defeat the Generals 3-2 Sunday evening.

Generals’ starter Conner Loeprich would take his first loss as he would throw 6 2/3 and allow three runs (one earned) on eight hits. He struck out seven.

Lumberjacks starter PJ Piesko would earn his second win of the year going five complete and would not allow a General to score. Nate Schweers would earn his first save as he would add 2 2/3 innings of relief for Covington. He allowed one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Offensive notables for the Generals would be Parker Phillips and Malik Stephens. Phillips was 2-for-4 with a double, with Stephens adding his third triple of the year. He would score a run and add an RBI. Joseph Bellini would also contribute an RBI in the loss.

Winn Allen and Orley Arellano would put down RBIs for the Lumberjacks with Arellano knocking his third homerun of the season. The Lumberjacks now move to 7-17 on the season.

Unable to gain any offensive momentum, the Generals fall to 14-9 on the year nestling them four games behind the South division leading Tom Sox. The Generals will travel to Purcellville to take on the Cannons Monday night.
