Generals Drummed by New Market 14-5

The Generals experienced a slippery return from the All Star weekend Monday night as they were handedly beaten by the New Market Rebels 14-5.

The Rebels kept a constant barrage of hits and runs on the Generals as they scored in all but two innings. It was certainly a team effort as they would have eight different players contribute RBIs, five log a multi-hit night and two players go deep.

Chase Sudduth and Luke Johnson would both contribute the long balls for the Rebels. Sudduth would end up 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. First baseman Jake Washer would also do some damage in route to a 2-for-5 night with two runs and three RBIs.

In total on the night, the Rebels would tab fourteen runs on the Generals with seventeen hits. Their starter Kyle Luigs would earn his first win of the year. He threw five innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits.

The lone sunshine for the Generals would come from Malik Stephens and Joseph Estrada. Stephens, though adding no runs or RBIs would go 4-for-5 with a double and a stolen base. Estrada would end up 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Starter Conner Loeprich would take his second loss for the Generals. He lasted just 2 1/3 allowing six earned runs on seven hits.

The typically dominant Generals’ bullpen will also look to put this behind them as they too were bumped around for seven earned runs.

New Market improves to 17-12 in the North as they are now only one game out of first place. The Generals fall to 17-12. They are now four games behind the Tom Sox for the South division lead.

The Generals will travel to Winchester Tuesday evening looking to bounce back against the Royals.
