The Waynesboro Generals (13-5) picked up their thirteenth win of the season Sunday evening after a 6-3 victory over the Purcellville Cannons (5-15).

Purcellville scored the first run of the game after a sharply hit grounder by Tyler Ratliff took a bad hop for an RBI single to give the Cannons a 1-0 lead.

The Generals would strike back in the bottom of the second inning for three runs, however, as the seven, eight, and nine hitters all delivered RBI hits. The team broke through after a Bryant Bowen RBI double to left center scored Eli Putnam who reached on a single. Charles Zaloumis followed with an RBI single to score Bowen, and Sam Palensky doubled home the third run to give the Generals a 3-1 lead.

Ray Hernandez struck back for the Cannons, however, with his third home run of the year, a solo shot, to make it a 3-2 ball game.

The Waynesboro lead would widen in the bottom of the fourth, though, as the bottom of the lineup came through again. Back-to-back singles by Bowen and Zaloumis as well as a throwing error by the second baseman loaded the bases. Tanner Poole then doubled into left center to score two runs and make it 5-2. Palesnky would score on a passed ball to stretch the lead to 6-2.

The Cannons would tack one more run on in the eighth, but the Generals would secure the victory 6-3.

Adam Tarver had a strong start on the mound for Waynesboro tossing six and two-thirds innings allowing just two runs on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts. Tanner Kirby would pitch one and one-third innings of relief allowing one run on two hits. Darren Kelly earned the save after pitching a scoreless ninth frame.
