Generals Grind Out 5-4 Win in Ten Innings at Purcellville

In a much needed show of perseverance, the Generals were able to dig in Wednesday evening and beat the Purcellville Cannons on the road by a score of 5-4 in ten innings.

Blake Goldsberry would take the no decision for the Generals throwing six complete allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits. Tyghe Bowers and Daniel Tolano would both throw in relief for the Generals with Tolano earning his second win of the season. He threw two innings and allowed one earned run on three hits.

Cannons’ starter Amiel Abreu would get tagged for four earned runs through five innings but it would be Drew Windham who would take the loss as he would allow the game winning run in the tenth. It would be his second loss of the season.

For the Generals, Reid Long would power his way to a 4-for-5 night with two doubles. He would also add an RBI, run scored and a stolen base. McClain Bradley would go deep for a solo blast for his second homerun of the year in the top half of the second. Bradley would finish the night 2-for-4.

It would be one of Long’s doubles that would ultimately put the Cannons to sleep as he would get things started in the top of the tenth. He would make it to third with a stolen base and then come home on a pass ball. The Cannons would then go down in order to end the game in the bottom of the tenth.

Trevin Esquerra would triple for the Cannons as he would post a 3-for-5 night and score three of the Cannons four runs.

The Cannons are now 22-12 in the North division and have a two game lead. The Generals better their record to the tune of 20-17 but still trail the Tom Sox in the South.

The Generals will enjoy an off day on Thursday before traveling to Staunton Friday evening to take on the Braves.
