Generals Pound North Leading Purcellville 11-4

In one of only two Valley League matchups Monday night, the Generals notched a much needed win by taking down the Purcellville Cannons 11-4.

The Generals came out gunning early as they put up six runs in the first three innings. Bats began to surge as the Generals would see RBIs put up by six different players as well as adding two long balls.

Third baseman Joseph Bellini would continue to stay hot as he would contribute one of the two home runs in route to a 2-for-3 night at the plate. Designate hitter Joe Vranesh would knock out the second one as he tore up the Cannons with a 2-for-4 night adding two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.

Recent addition to the Generals Joe Cosentino would break out with a three hit night as he would add two runs and an RBI. Parker Phillips, McClain Bradley and Jason Bush would contribute RBIs in the win.

Generals starter Blake Goldsberry would earn his second win of the season for the Generals. He pitched six complete allowing just one earned run on three hits.

A typically very strong Cannons team would go quietly as they managed to put only one run on the board in the first eight innings. In an attempted ninth inning rally, they would knock around Generals shutdown man Daniel Tolano for three runs, two of which were earned. The comeback however would fall short.

Cannons’ starter Alex London would earn his first loss of the year. He made it through four innings and would allow six earned runs on seven hits. The Cannons now fall to 15-10 in the North but still remain one game ahead of Front Royal for the division lead.

The Generals better their record to the tune of 15-9 as they gain a half a game on the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The Generals will travel to Charlottesville to battle their South division foe Tuesday night headlining the lone Valley League matchup on Independence Day.
