Generals Power Past River Bandits 14-6

The Generals fired up the bats Thursday night as they powered their way past the Woodstock River Bandits defeating them 14-6.

In yet another offensively fused evening at the plate, the Generals generated fourteen runs off of fourteen hits with six players recording a multi-hit game.

Waynesboro catcher Luke Robinson began the show in the top half of the second inning as he took a 1-1 pitch deep for his second homerun of the year. Robinson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

With a score of 1-0 headed into the top of the fourth the Generals put up their first crooked number of the night as they hit the River Bandits for five runs. Third baseman Hunter Wilson started off with a single that scored Luke Robinson. Wilson was 2-for-6 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. It was his fourth stolen base of the year.

Wilson and Joseph Estrada would eventually come around to score in the inning as centerfielder Malik Stephens would single putting the score at 4-0 Waynesboro. Stephens was easily the standout for the Generals putting together a 3-for-4 night at the plate with two runs and four RBIs. He also earned his third stolen base of the season.

Ryan Rosa and Andrew Robinson would also later add RBIs in the inning.

The River Bandits would attempt to mount a small comeback in the bottom half of the fourth as they were able to get three runs on the board. They managed just one hit in the inning but took advantage of some sloppy General play, capitalizing on an error and wild pitches.

The game would remain close heading into the top of the ninth with the Generals up 8-6, but a six run inning by Waynesboro would put to rest any attempt at a comeback by the River Bandits.

Trent Spikes would take the loss for Woodstock as he is now 1-1 for the year. He pitched four innings allowing six earned runs on six hits.

Other offensive notables for the Generals include Ryan Rosa who was 2-for-6 with two RBIs and a stolen base as well as Andrew Robinson who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.

Patrick OShea would earn his first win for the Generals as he logged three innings allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out two.

Woodstock now falls to 6-6 on the year putting them at a three way tie for fourth place in the North division.

The Generals improve to 7-4 in the South gaining a half a game on the division leading Tom Sox whom they will face in Charlottesville Friday evening. Proving to be one of the Valley League’s strongest rivalries so far this season, the Generals have a chance to deadlock the division with a win over the Tom Sox.
