Generals Rally with Six Run Ninth to Defeat Cardinals 9-8

The Generals were able to mount a six run rally in the ninth inning to come from behind and take down the Front Royal Cardinals 9-8.

Third baseman Joseph Bellini was the standout for the Generals as we he would put up a 2-for-3 night with a run scored and three RBIs. First baseman Parker Phillips would also add a pair of RBIs as he would go 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Refusing to quit, it would require a combination of timely hits and walks for the Generals to put together their ninth inning rally. They would head into the top of ninth down 7-3, a pretty lofty margin especially on the road.

Recent addition James Cosentino would also add an RBI in the win. Right fielder McClain Bradley would continue his tear of consistency as he would set a 2-for-4 night at the plate with two runs scored putting his average at .420 on the season. He would add two stolen bases setting him at nine on the year.

Generals starter Payton Kinney would only make it 3 1/3 allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits. Andrew Mahoney would earn his second win for the Generals as he would come in for long relief going 5 2/3. The Cardinals would only manage three unearned runs on four hits off of him. He struck out nine.

Centerfielder for Front Royal Dylan Hardy would have an impressive night as he would go 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Michael McDonough would take the loss for the Cardinals blowing up to the tune of seven earned runs. It is his second loss of the season.

The Generals are no 14-8 in the South, three games behind the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The Cardinals fall to 13-11 in the North.

The Generals look to continue the wins as they travel to Covington Sunday evening to take on the Lumberjacks.
