Generals Slip to Royals in Ninth, Lose 5-4

After breaking a 3-3 tie in the top half of the ninth, the Generals allowed two runs in the bottom half to let the Winchester Royals walk-off with a 5-4 victory.

Patrick OShea would get hit with the loss for the Generals. He pitched four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits. This would be Oshea’s second loss of the season. Generals’ starter Tyler Thompson would throw four innings allowing just one earned run on five hits.

Offensively Zach Evers would knock his third homerun of the season and would go 2-for-5 with two RBIs. James Cosentino would also add an RBI and a double as he went 2-for-4. Seven Generals would have stolen bases on the night with McClain Bradley swiping his nineteenth bag.

The Royals would utilize five different pitchers in an effort to grab the victory on Monday night. Hunter Fillingim would take his second win of the season. He pitched one inning and allowed just one run on one hit but was saved by the ninth inning heroics of his teammates.

Lorenzo Hampton would start the excitement in the ninth for the Royals as he would belt the game tying homerun. It would then take just a walk and single for the Royals to put the Generals to sleep with a 5-4 walk-off for their home town crowd.

The Royals are now 16-18 and seven games out of first in the North. The Generals unable to find momentum fall to 19-16 and still remain five games behind the Tom Sox.

The Generals will travel to Woodstock Tuesday evening to take on the River Bandits.
