Generals Tied for First in the South with 12-5 Win Over Covington

The Generals continued to plug along offensively Friday evening as they would earn a rather anticlimactic win over the Covington Lumberjacks 12-5.

In what appeared early on to be a dog fight to the finish, ended up being a very decisive Generals’ win as they would pour on seven runs in the sixth inning. The Lumberjacks would strike early as they would take a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.

Covington would have doubles from Caleb Walls and Orley Arellano with Bruce Strickland adding his second triple of the season. The Lumberjacks would add one more run in the fifth and then be shutdown by the Generals for the remainder of the evening.

Starting pitcher Kyle Craft would go four innings allowing five earned runs on six hits. He would strike out five and walk three as he would take the no decision. Orlando Cannon would earn his fourth loss of the year for the Lumberjacks. He pitched two innings and allowed seven earned runs on five hits. Walks would contribute to the big inning for the Generals as Cannon would issue four free passes.

Conner Loeprich would throw five complete for the Generals and would also tab a no decision in the contest. He allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits. Player of the game for the Generals, Garrett Bye would earn his first win of the season as he would come on in relief. He shutdown the Lumberjacks over two innings allowing just one hit and striking out three.

Daniel Tolano would also continue his scoreless relief adding an inning to his belt. He struck out two.

Offensively for the Generals Malik Stephens, Ryan Rosa, Parker Phillips and Jason Bush would all contribute with two RBIs apiece. Stephens and Rosa were the easy standouts as Malik would gap his first triple of the year with Ryan adding his first long-ball down the left field line. Jason Bush would also contribute with his second double of the season.

The Lumberjacks now fall to 5-12 on the year putting them in last place in the South as the Generals improve to 11-6.

The Generals will enjoy a much needed Saturday off before traveling to Charlottesville on Sunday to take on the Tom Sox. The Generals and Tom Sox are now tied for the division lead in the South.
