Generals Top the River Bandits to Open the 2017 Season

The Generals came out with a strong showing for the 2017 season defeating the Woodstock River Bandits 10-4 in their season opener at Kate Collins Field on Friday evening. They were backed by a solid outing from starting pitcher Payton Kinney as he went 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. He struck out four.

Catcher Luke Robinson pushed the Generals offensively going deep for the team’s first home-run of the season as he crushed a two run shot to right-center in the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke was 2-for-4 on the night with three RBIs and a run scored.

Right fielder McClain Bradley was also in mid-season form at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. The Generals saw additional RBIs provided by Parker Phillips, Zach Evers and Austin Russ.

The River Bandits saw a sluggish start to the season as losing pitcher Luke Samson struggled through four innings allowing five earned runs on four hits. Designated hitter Eric Crain came through with two RBIs on the evening with centerfielder Danton Hyman scoring two runs. The River Bandits stranded thirteen runners.

The Generals continue at home on Saturday evening as they take on the Charlottesville Tom Sox.
