South Takes 2017 VBL All Star Game 5-0

The powerful South division was able to shutdown the North Sunday evening as they would go on to win the 2017 VBL All Star game by a score of 5-0.

The evening saw a multitude of entertaining activities ranging from a player meet and greet for the kids, the 60 yard dash competition and finally the home run derby. Strasburg’s Brandon Quaranta would slug his way to becoming the 2017 homerun derby champion.

There was also a bit of Valley League history in attendance as they would induct the newest members of the Valley Baseball League Hall of Fame.

After five innings of scoreless ball the South would finally get on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Payton Robinson of the Staunton Braves would come across for the games first run in what seemingly might be the game’s only run as pitching on both sides continued to dominate.

The South would go on to add two runs in both the bottom of the eighth and ninth. Though it was technically not required, it is customary to play the complete nine in the VBL All Star game.

Ty Andrus of the Harrisonburg Turks would take MVP honors as he would run a 4-for-5 night at the plate.

Your Generals’ representatives would have a rough night at the plate as Zach Evers would go 0-for-3, Luke Robinson 0-for-4 (with a run scored) and McClain Bradley 0-for-2. Joseph Bellini would add one hit for the Generals and hard throwing righty Daniel Tolano would shutdown the North in the ninth.

The Generals will be back home Monday evening at Kate Collins Field as they look to take on the New Market Rebels.
