Generals rally late, stun Braves
A three-run Jordan Walton triple keyed a five-run seventh-inning rally, and another run-scoring hit by Walton aided a three-run eighth that helped bring Waynesboro back from a 5-1 deficit and push the Generals to a 9-5 win over Staunton Sunday night at Mathers Park.
The win gives Waynesboro a two-and-a-half-game lead over Staunton in the Southern Division with three regular-season games remaining. The Generals’ magic number to clinch the division and the #3 seed in the upcoming Valley League playoffs stands at one. (more…)
Generals fall 3-0 at Rockbridge
Waynesboro got another good effort against Rockbridge from Tim Leather, but the Generals could only manage two hits off Jordan Elliot, and the Rapids got a 3-0 win in Lexington Saturday night.
Leather (2-3) had won back-to-back starts against Rockbridge earlier in the month, and had shut out the Rapids through four before a pair of errors helped the Rapids get their first run across in the fifth when Clinton Freeman hit a grounder to short that Keith Picconi booted allowing Richard Palase to score and give Rockbridge a 1-0 lead. Generals beat Covington, maintain lead in South
Ryan Ashooh pitched six scoreless innings, and Waynesboro got two two-run hits in a key seventh-inning rally from Chase Worthington and Rob Amaro, and the Generals got a big 8-4 win over Covington Friday night.
Ashooh (3-0) scattered seven hits, striking out five and walking one. He left with a 4-0 lead after six innings, but Covington closed the gap in the seventh on reliever G.J. Strauss, who gave up three runs, two earned, in a third of an inning of work.
Waynesboro loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on walks to Brad Noland, Dykota Spiess and Jordan Walton in advance of a Worthington two-run double down the left-field line. Amaro lined the next pitch into centerfield to score Walton and Worthington. (more…)
Waynesboro rallies late to knock off Strasburg, retake first in South
Down 1-0 in the eighth, Waynesboro got the tying run on an RBI groundout by pinch hitter Brad Noland, and Dykota Spiess scored on a throwing error in the ninth on a botched double-play attempt to give the Generals an important 2-1 win on the road at Strasburg Wednesday night.
The pair of unearned runs sullied a fine outing by Strasburg starting pitcher Timothy Ponn, who gave up just two hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and one walk on the night.
Waynesboro starter Adam Curtis was there almost pitch-for-pitch with Ponn, giving up a run on six hits in six innings. (more…)
Waynesboro rolls Front Royal, 14-2
It didn’t look like Waynesboro was going to get out of the first inning. Then Front Royal couldn’t get out of the fifth or sixth.
The Generals rallied from an early 2-0 deficit thanks to a four-run fifth and a seven-run sixth to post a 14-2 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday night.
Starting pitcher TJ Page struggled mightily in the first, walking five Front Royal hitters before getting out of the inning by inducing a ground ball off the bat of Tucker Brown to limit the damage to two runs.
Front Royal left the bases full again in the second, and Page settled down from there, though he was only able to make it through four innings due to the high early pitch count. (more…)
