Generals announce summer camps

The Waynesboro Generals will hold three summer camps in June, the team announced today.
The camps are scheduled for:
- June 14-16
- June 21-23
- June 28-30
The camps will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
The cost to attend is $62 per player per camp.

Fleck, Smith join Generals for ‘10

Kaleb Fleck will be back in Waynesboro to pitch for the Generals in 2010.
The signing of Fleck, who pitched in Waynesboro in 2008 and then last summer played in the Cape Cod League, was one of a series of player-personnel moves announced by the team on Tuesday.
The Generals added another pitcher, Mars Hill righthander Greg Smith, and announced that two players who had signed contracts with the team to play in 2010, Austin Peay pitcher Lucas Anderson and Towson pitcher Spencer Patton, will not be playing this summer. Read more
Generals to welcome players in on June 1

Members of the 2010 Waynesboro Generals will be arriving in town on Tuesday, June 1, at Kate Collins Field.
The team will greet players, their families and host families for the summer at the field in a rolling event beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The ‘10 regular season begins for the Generals on Saturday, June 5, with a game at New Market.
The Generals open their home schedule on Sunday, June 6, against Rockbridge.
Shukri’s takes over concessions

Shukri’s BBQ Co. will run the concession stand at Kate Collins Field for the Waynesboro Generals this summer, the team announced today.
Shukri’s is located at 403 W. Main St. in Downtown Waynesboro.
A full menu of ballpark fare will be announced in the coming weeks.
Generals add Stobbs to ‘10 roster

University of Tampa junior Evan Stobbs will be returning to Waynesboro for another Valley League summer with the Generals in 2010.
Stobbs has a 0.48 ERA in 13 relief appearances for the Spartans in 2010. The righty was an honorable-mention selection to the All-Sunshine State Conference team announced this week.
In 2009 in Waynesboro Stobbs had a 1-1 record in 14 appearances (one start) with a 3.27 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.
Stobbs also hit .245 with a home run and 12 RBI in 53 at-bats as a position player for the Generals in ‘09.
Generals announce signings of eight for summer season

The Waynesboro Generals announced a slew of player signings today for the 2010 season.
Zips send leading hitter Akron outfielder Drew Turocy will add punch to the middle of the order for Coach Ronnie Palmer in 2010.
Turocy, a 6-3, 185-pound junior, leads the Zips with a .404 batting average and .610 slugging percentage. He has a .419 on-base percentage with four homers, 36 RBIs and six stolen bases.
Turocy has also made 12 appearances on the mound for Akron from the Zips’ bullpen, and is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched in 2010. Read more
Vandenbout signs pro contract

Waynesboro Generals alum Pete Vandenbout has signed a pro contract to play with the Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants in the American Association of Independent Baseball League.
Vandenbout played for Waynesboro in 2008. He transferred from College of Charleston to West Virginia Tech to play for Lawrence Nesselrodt, the former Generals coach and current director of baseball operations for the Generals, who is now the head coach at West Virginia Tech, in 2009, and posted a 4-4 record and 4.43 ERA. How 2010 schedule shapes up for Waynesboro

The Waynesboro Generals open the 2010 Valley League season on the road at New Market on Saturday, June 5, then return home a night later on Sunday, June 6, to open their home schedule with Rockbridge.
The 44-game schedule includes a six-game series with the rival Staunton Braves, including the home opener against Staunton on Wednesday, June 9, and home games on July 6 and Aug. 1, the latter game part of a two-game home-and-home mini-series that could factor heavily in the 2010 playoff race.
