Pair of FGCU Pitchers to Join Generals

A pair of pitchers from FGCU are set to join the Generals for the 2022 campaign. LHP Daniel Batcher and RHP Darien Smith will make the trip to Waynesboro.

Two pitchers will be joining the Generals this summer from Florida Gulf Coast University. LHP Daniel Batcher and RHP Darien Smith will make the trip from Fort Myers, FL to Waynesboro.

Batcher is a current redshirt sophomore and has seen his first action in an Eagles uniform this spring. The Lakeland, FL native has seen action in 15 games and made three starts including a season-high 5.2 IP in a win over FAU on Apr. 19.

Smith is in his first season at FGCU after transferring from East Florida State College prior to this season. During 19 outings this year, all out of the bullpen, Smith has tossed 35 innings and put together a 2-1 record including a pair of saves.

Both Batcher and Smith continue a streak of Eagles that have made the trip to Waynesboro for the summer including Joe Kinker and Alejandro Figueredo a season ago.

The Generals will kick off the 2022 summer season on June 3 as the Staunton Braves come to town. Action is set to start at 7 p.m.
