Generals Bounce Back with 14-2 Win Against Staunton Braves

After a Saturday evening that saw the Generals shutout and the bats seemingly non-existent, Waynesboro bounced backed with a 14-2 pounding over the Staunton Braves.

The Generals tallied a total of 20 hits with every man in the lineup reaching base with at least one hit and six players recording two or more. The action started early as third baseman Hunter Wilson singled to centerfield plating McClain Bradley.

Head Coach Matt Williams continued with the aggressive style of play as Joe Vranesh and Ryan Rosa each had stolen bases in the bottom half of the third inning. That gives Rosa three stolen bags on the year with Vranesh just behind with two. Malik Stephens and Grant Suponchick would also each later record a stolen base.

Rosa would eventually come around to score on an RBI single to left field by right fielder Joseph Estrada giving the Generals a 2-0 lead headed into the fourth.

The Braves then came back to immediately tie it up in the fourth on RBIs from Garrett Marchand and Patrick Overstreet. Marchand doubled to right scoring Henry Kreienbaum with Overstreet singling to left bringing Marchand back around.

With the score even at two a piece headed into the fifth, it would only be short lived as the Generals would return to bat with the first of two six run innings.

The hit parade began with a single to third base by Ryan Rosa. He would promptly reach third on an error by the third baseman and would then be sent home on a double by Joseph Estrada. Estrada was 4-for-5 on the night with two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Generals would never look back as they added five more runs in the fifth and then tagged on six more in the seventh. Other notable offensive performances go to Hunter Wilson who was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, Joe Vranesh who was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Malik Stephens who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Staunton starter Ryan Williams was hit for his first loss of the year as he went 4 1/3 innings allowing six earned runs on twelve hits.

Waynesboro starter Gabe Mosser earned his first win of the season as he threw six innings allowing just two earned runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked two.

The Generals also continued with the shutdown bullpen as they saw a combined three innings of scoreless relief from Patrick OShea and Daniel Tolano. OShea earned his first save of the season in two innings of relief with one strike out. In one inning of relief, Tolano struck out two bringing his season total to ten with just 4 2/3 innings on the season. He is yet to allow an earned run in four appearances.

The loss puts the Braves at 3-5 on the season as they sit tied for third in the South. The Generals now at 5-3 remain in second in the South, 1.5 games behind the Charlottesville Tom Sox.

The Generals look to continue the offensive surge as they remain at home Monday evening to take on a 5-2 Purcellville Cannons team.
