Waynesboro Falls at New Market 10-7

generals-rebels2The Waynesboro Generals (26-11) came up short on the road against the New Market Rebels (16-23) Friday evening, losing 10-7.

 

The loss snapped a five game winning streak for the Generals and was only their second loss in their last ten ballgames.

 

New Market scored early in the bottom of the second to give them their first lead at 2-0. Waynesboro cut into the lead with one run in the third when Jorge Flores hit a solo home run.

 

The Generals would then take the lead in the top of the fourth as they put up three runs in the inning. Three RBI singles by Kyle Jackson, Flores, and Kirk Sidwell in the inning gave them a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the inning. The lead evaporated quickly as the Rebels would put up six runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead at 8-4.

 

Each team put up two runs in the seventh inning. For the Generals, Tracy Hadley drove in a run with an RBI groundout, and Zach Sterry had an RBI single to cut into the deficit. New Market responded, however, after an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. Waynesboro would score one more run in the eighth inning after a Flores RBI putout, but could not push anymore across, losing by a final score of 10-7.

 

David Ehmen started and was the losing pitcher for Waynesboro after allowing eight runs on ten hits in his four innings of work. He struck out five and walked two. Merritt Huber pitched two innings of relief and gave up the other two runs while walking two batter and striking out one.  Tyler Davis and Ivanniel Vazquez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief while Davis struck out one and walked two.

 

UP NEXT: The Generals will face the Harrisonburg Turks for the final time of the regular season Saturday night beginning at 7:00 pm at Kate Collins Field.
