Generals nip Express to snap losing skid

A controversial MJ Sartin home run proved to be the difference in a 4-3 Waynesboro win over Strasburg Thursday night.

Sartin led off the sixth with a long fly ball that had appeared to clear the right-field fence in fair territory, but was originally ruled foul. Generals coach Derek McDaniel went out to argue the call, and home-plate umpire CR Thompson overturned the call and gave Sartin the homer.

The Sartin homer, his first of the season, gave Waynesboro a 4-2 lead. Strasburg scratched across a run in the seventh off starting pitcher Ryan Poplawski (1-0) to close within 4-3, but Generals relievers Joseph Lucas, Andrew Blackwell and Andrew Reck closed the door from there.

Sartin went 3-for-4, and catcher Jeb Weymouth was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases for the Generals, who had lost five straight.

Nick Bruns (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on 10 hits in five innings.

Poplawski gave up three runs on six hits in six and a third innings.
