Generals Take Down River Bandits in 2nd Straight Walk-Off Win

Once the pitch count got too high for Jacob Bradley to continue for Woodstock, the Generals struck for 2 in the bottom of the 9th to win the ball game 3-2 on the walk-off single by Blake Johnson (UAB).

Jacob Bradley had the number of the Generals all game long as he threw 8 solid innings. He got double play balls when he needed them and also racked up 7 strikeouts. Once he came out of the game for the ninth, the Generals finally pushed across the winning runs.

Woodstock took the lead in the top of the third. Justin Beyer (Wagner) was working through the game quickly when he gave up a 2-out single. He walked the next hitter as well, but got a ground ball that looked like it was going to get him out of the inning. However, an error by the shortstop allowed one run to score. The error was followed up by a single to left to score the second run. After 3, the score was 2-0 in favor of Woodstock.

The Generals would chip away in the bottom of the 5th with 2 straight 2 out doubles. The first was by Alex Webb (Chipola) and the other was by Andrew Orzel (Wofford) for the first RBI of the game for Waynesboro. 2-1 was the score until the bottom of the 9th. Woodstock brought in Rainer Ausmus to try and finish the game. He started the inning by hitting Dalton Wingo (UCF). When Bruno Teramoto (New Mexico St) put down a sacrifice bunt, Wingo got aggressive and got all the way to third, narrowly beating the tag of the third baseman who had to hustle back to third after fielding the bunt. Joe Bellini (Cincinnati) was intentionally walked, and Tyler Bielamowicz (Houston) walked soon after to load the bases. It came down to Blake Johnson to drive in the tying and possibly winning runs. In a 2-2 count, Johnson shot a grounder through the right side to bring 2 runs in and walk it off in the bottom of the 9th for their 3rd straight win.

Generals Win in Walk-Off Fashion Over Strasburg in 11

In a game that saw Strasburg out-hit Waynesboro 14 to 6, both teams were stuck on 3 after the first 9 innings. In the bottom of the 11th, it was a sacrifice fly from Joe Bellini (Cincinnati) that walked it off and gave the Gens their 2nd win in a row.

Both teams started quickly by scoring in the first frame. After 1 full inning, the score was tied 1-1. Strasburg manufactured their runs by picking up a few infield singles. The first was a liner off of the starting pitcher Nathan Schneider (St. Mary’s) with one out in the inning. He was moved to second base on a groundout and ended up scoring on a weird play that resulted in an RBI infield single.

In the bottom of the inning, Tyler Bielamowicz (Houston) led the game off with a walk and Blake Johnson (Alabama Birmingham) followed him up with a single to center. Later in the inning, Andrew Orzel (Wofford) came through with a two out RBI single but Johnson was thrown out at the plate attempting to score. The Gens would also score in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 2-1 lead. They were able to load the bases but only scored one on the strength of a sacrifice fly by Tyler Bielamowicz.

The Generals would lengthen their lead by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the 5th. Blake Johnson would work his way on with 2 outs in the inning by way of a walk. When the Strasburg pitcher attempted to pick off Johnson, the first baseman assumed he was throwing to the plate. The ball sailed way down into the right field corner. Johnson, who was stealing on first movement, was able to come all the way around to score on the play.

The Express were able to tie the game in the top of the 6th after the rally started with a two out single. It was followed with another single, but the runner moved up to second on the throw to third. A run scored on a dropped third strike and followed with an RBI single. After 6 the score was tied at 3. Neither team was able to push across any more runs until the bottom of the 11th inning. The first two runners worked their way on by drawing a walk and forcing an error by the shortstop. After 2 failed bunt attempts by Joe Bellini, the Gens caught a break with a wild pitch. Bellini then hit the next pitch into right center. Justin Hayes, the Strasburg centerfielder made a highlight reel type catch, but Keegan Morrow (Alabama Birmingham) was able to easily tag up and score the winning run.

Tyler Bielamowicz Throws No-Hitter vs. Front Royal

In one of the most masterful pitching performances you will ever see, Tyler Bielamowicz (Houston) chucked a No-Hitter with 15 strikeouts.

We’ll cover the offense of the Generals before diving into Bielo’s performance. The Generals put up 9 hits and 4 runs in the victory. Neither team had scored until the top of the 6th. The Gens were able to change that when Alex Brait (FGCU) was hit by a pitch with one out in the inning. He moved to third base on a single by Bryce Teodosio (Clemson) and scored on an RBI groundout by Alex Webb (Chipola). They manufactured another run in the top of the 8th when Alex Brait delivered a 2 out double and came in to score on an error by the right fielder on Bryce Teodosio’s fly ball. After 8 innings, the Gens lead 2-0 while Bielo was dealing. In the 9th, the Gens loaded the bases with 2 outs in the inning. Blake Johnson (UAB) delivered a double into the right center gap to score 4-0.

Now for the performance of the night. Tyler Bielamowicz pounded the zone all night in his outing. He was perfect going into the 9th inning. He had faced the minimum to get out every single batter he had faced. The Cardinals broke up the perfect game on the first batter of the 9th on an error by the General third baseman. They also worked a walk in the inning with 2 outs. But Bielo was able to finish out the game in only 111 pitches after striking out 15 batters. Not only was it one of the most dominant performances, it was one of the most efficient performances in recent memory.

Waynesboro Takes A Beating in 11-1 Loss to Charlottesville

Charlottesville was able to put up all 11 of their runs in the first 4 innings. The Gens never really threatened their lead afterwards.

It started right away in the first. After the Gens went 3 up, 3 down, Charlottesville started by getting their first three batters on. The lead-off batter reached on the first of 5 errors made by the Gens on the night. He was followed with a walk before Dom DAllessandro’s RBI double. The next batter grounded into an RBI 5-3 put out to put up the final run in the first inning.

The Generals once again couldn’t formulate much other than a 2-out single by Bryce Teodosio (Clemson). Teodosio had a pretty good night at the park, but that was about the only bright spot. In the bottom of the 2nd, the TomSox really opened it up by scoring 6 runs. It wasn’t until the 9th batter in the inning that the Gens were able to record the first out of the inning. By that time, they had already scored 5 runs. The 6th and final run was put on the board by an RBI fielder’s choice.

The TomSox would continue to prove relentless. They scored 3 more in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Generals made 2 errors, walked one, and gave up only 1 hit in the inning. However, the TomSox made the most of the hit and also added a sacrifice fly to put up their 3 runs to make it 11-0.

The only bit of offense for the Generals came on a solo home run by Bryce Teodosio in the top of the 7th inning. Teodosio racked up 3 hits to lead the club in that aspect. The 11-1 score after the homer would be the final
