Three from UVa. to join Generals in 2010

Three members of the #1-ranked UVa. baseball team have signed with the Waynesboro Generals for the 2010 season.

Sophomore pitcher Justin Thompson, sophomore infielder Jared King and freshman infielder Colin Harrington will represent the ‘Hoos on trhe roster, the team announced today.

Thompson, a 6-1, 195-pound righthander, is 3-0 with a 4.05 ERA in 12 relief appearances for Virginia. Thompson has struck out 25 in 20 innings and has a .192 batting average against him in 2010.

Neither King nor Harrington have played for Virginia in 2010. King hit .250 as a freshman in 2009 with 15 RBI in 64 at bats in 30 games, including 19 starts. Harrington hit .435 with 16 stolen bases as a senior at Bishop McCourt High School (Johnstown, Pa.) in 2009.

Other player moves announced by the team today:

– The Generals have signed Stuarts Draft High School graduate Jeremy Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, a freshman righthander on the pitching staff at Patrick Henry Community College, was 7-3 with a 3.95 ERA in 13 starts at Patrick Henry in 2010.

– Signees who will not be playing for Waynesboro in 2010 include Austin Johnston (Central Florida), Austin Pratt (Bluefield State) and Kris Osborn (Mount Marty).

    Great news about the UVA players, when will they come. I bet Thompson won’t come until UVA is done. But if Colin ain’t playing will he join our club early?
