Waynesboro clinches playoff spot

wlogo2The Waynesboro Generals will open the best-of-three first round of the 2013 Valley Baseball League playoffs at Harrisonburg on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The Waynesboro Generals clinched the fourth spot in the South Division Wednesday night with a win over the Rockbridge Rapids. The Generals will face the South Division champion Harrisonburg Turks in the first round of the playoffs.

Game 2 will be in Waynesboro on Monday night at Linco Park at Kate Collins Field on Ivy Street. Game time is 7 p.m. A Game 3, if necessary, will be back in Harrisonburg on Tuesday.

“The Generals are playing great baseball in July, and we never had a doubt that we’d clinch a playoff spot,” said David Gauldin II, the president of the non-profit Waynesboro Amateur Athletics, the board that operates the Waynesboro Generals. “We are very proud of our players and organization for securing the final playoff spot in the South Division.”

“The Waynesboro Generals are part of this community,” said Gauldin. “It is our hope that the entire community will come out and root on the Generals Monday night in Waynesboro.”

Kline’s Ice Cream will also join be at Linco Park on Monday night with custard-style ice cream for sale.

Waynesboro finished the regular season at 22-22 to earn the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division.
