Waynesboro Generals announce Williams and Tutwiler as new assistant coaches

The Waynesboro Generals, the 2013 Valley Baseball League champions, announced today that Matt Williams and Josh Tutwiler have been hired as the team’s new assistant coaches, and complete head coach, D.J. King’s staff for 2014.

Matt Williams is currently the graduate assistant coach at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. Williams played collegiately at Texas College in Tyler, Texas and Valdosta State University. Williams has one season of summer collegiate baseball experience as a staff member of the River Valley League in Dubuque, Iowa.

Williams’ day-to-day duties as a member of Greg Guilliams’ staff at the NCAA Division II member, Valdosta State University, include working with hitters and infielders, while helping lead the Blazers to a Gulf South Conference Championship and South Regional appearance in 2013.

Josh Tutwiler is no stranger to the Valley Baseball League. The Bridgewater, Virginia native was a member of the 2011 Staunton Braves, where he was awarded team Offensive MVP after leading the squad in numerous statistical categories including batting average, on-base percentage, doubles, RBI’s, and walks.  Tutwiler also led the league in throwing out potential base stealers.

Tutwiler played collegiately at St. John’s University, Jackson State Community College, and Old Dominion University. While at Old Dominion, Tutwiler earned All-CAA accolades as a catcher.

Tutwiler is currently the volunteer assistant coach on Brian Murphy’s staff at NCAA Division I member, William & Mary and has helped the Green and Gold to its most successful season in school history. The Green and Gold won a school record 39 games, garnered its first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and won its first ever NCAA Tournament games.
