Waynesboro Routs Covington on the Road 14-3

generals-lumberjacks2Putting on another impressive offensive showcase, the Waynesboro Generals (25-10) blew out the Covington Lumberjacks (20-16) in an impressive 14-3 road victory.

 

Waynesboro is now on a four game win streak and are also winners of nine of their last ten games.

 

The Generals got things started quickly in the top of the first when Zach Sterry drove in the first run of the game with an RBI groundout. Then, in the third, Waynesboro put three more runs on the board to stretch the lead to 4-0. Charles Zaloumis had a ground-rule double to score the first run of the inning to give the team a two run lead. Eli Putnam would then drive the other two runs in with a two-RBI single, doubling their lead.

 

The top of the fourth saw Waynesboro double their lead again by putting up four more runs in the inning. Zaloumis drove in another run with an RBI groundout, making it 5-0. Then, Sterry belted his thirteenth home run of the year, a two-run shot, to score himself and Tanner Poole.  Andrew Bullock would later score on a wild pitch to give the Generals a comfortable eight run lead.

 

Covington scored one in the bottom of the fourth to finally break into the scoring column, but the Generals answered after Zaloumis delivered his third RBI on the night with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Lumberjacks scored again in the bottom of the inning, making the score 8-2.

 

The Generals continued their hot hitting into the sixth as the offense pushed across five more runs, extending their already impressive lead. Tracy Hadley hit an RBI single, scoring one run, followed by a bases loaded hit by pitch that scored another. Sam Palensky hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded to put the Waynesboro lead at eleven. Kirk Sidwell drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to put the Generals at fourteen runs scored on the evening. Covington scored one run in the bottom of the ninth to set the final score at 14-3.

 

Tyler Howe started and earned the win for the Generals on the mound, going six innings and giving up two runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Conner Loeprich pitched the final three innings and allowed one run on four hits with five strikeout.

 

UP NEXT: Waynesboro will be at home Thursday evening to take on the Strasburg Express starting at 7:00 pm.
