Young ballplayer wins WSVA First Pitch Contest

Evan Sites isn’t worried that he might throw one out of the strike zone. The crowd will be bigger than he’s used to playing in front of in his Little League games, but still, Sites, 9, is a pitcher.

“Not really at all,” Sites told WSVA-550AM “Late Afternoons” host Mike Schikman on Thursday. On Sunday, before the WSVA Waynesboro Generals Game of the Week, Sites will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

A second baseman when he’s not pitching in the spring, Sites has been working hard on his pitching since learning that he’d won the WSVA First Pitch Contest, said his father, John.

According to the essay that his parents helped him write to enter the contest, Evan has become a huge baseball fan since starting baseball earlier this year.

Evan makes sure the TV is on baseball, and mom and dad take in games with their son. The family also makes it out to Waynesboro Generals’ games, and Evan has become a big fan.
