Seth Lucio named to watch list

2012lucioSeth Lucio (Waynesboro ’12) has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Mid-Season Watch List.

Making the transition from weekday starter to closer this season, Lucio has already broken the Tech single-season record for saves, recording nine. He is also just four saves away from becoming the Tech career leader in saves.

Lucio owns a 1.20 ERA in 2013 and leads the Golden Eagles with 20 appearances. In 30 innings, the right hander has allowed just four earned runs and 16 hits. He has struck out 41 batters and allowed just a .154 average on his way to a 2-1 record.

Fifty-one players from across the nation have been named to the list, all looking to become the ninth winner of the Stopper of the Year Award.

Palensky, Lucio win weekly honors

Caleb Palensky (sophomore, Nebraska-Omaha) is the Waynesboro Generals Player of the Week, and Seth Lucio (freshman, Tennessee Tech) is a repeat honoree as Waynesboro Generals Pitcher of the Week.

Palensky hit .400 this week (10-for-25) to raise his average for the 2012 season to .360. Palensky is second on the team with a .443 on-base percentage and tied for fourth with eight runs batted in.

Palensky is also second in the Valley League with 48 assists.

Lucio improved to 2-0 in the Generals’ 8-1 win at Covington Friday night. The righthander gave up a run in seven innings pitched against the Lumberjacks, and for the season has given up just that one earned run in 18 innings pitched.

Lucio’s 0.50 ERA and 25 strikeouts are good for second in the league. His .177 opponents’ batting average is fifth-best in the league.
