Four Buccaneers Are Heading to the Valley

WAYNESBORO, Va. – The Waynesboro Generals are set to add a group of four Buccaneers from Barry University for the upcoming 2023 campaign.

 

Pitcher Federico Zapata, outfielder Sean Shelly, catcher Matthew Menendez and outfielder Danny Garcia will make the trip to the valley this season from the Division II Florida based institution.

 

Zapata hails from Miami, Fla. And has seen action in 17 games for the Buccaneers in 2023. The freshman has made all of his appearances out of the bullpen and has tallied a 1-2 record along with six saves including a five-pitch save against St. Thomas earlier this month.

 

Shelly has started in 13 games so far this season and is currently swinging .302 with a trio of long balls and 12 RBI. The Clearwater, Fla. native can play the outfield along with first base and tallied his best game of the season back in February in a win over Saint Leo as he tallied a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored.

 

Menendez is in his second season at Barry after transferring in from UCF. The sophomore has been the primary catcher for the Buccaneers this season, swinging .258 and tallying four homeruns. Hailing from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Menendez has committed just one error in 31 games this season for the Bucs.

 

Garcia started his collegiate career at Assumption before transferring to Barry. The Massachusetts native has only seen action in nine games for the Bucs this season mostly in relief roles. A left-handed swinger, Garcia is 2-for-8 on the season and has amassed five RBI.

 

The 2023 season is set to start on June 1 as the Generals make the trip across the mountain to battle the Charlottesville TomSox at 7 p.m.


Two Shore Hawks Heading to Waynesboro

WAYNESBORO, Va. – Alex McCoy and Jason Brown are set to join the Generals for 2023.

McCoy and Brown come to Waynesboro by way of Maryland Eastern Shore in Salisbury, Md. out of the NEC.

McCoy has seen action in 26 games for the Shore Hawks this season and is on pace to set career highs in multiple categories. The Baltimore native has seen action primarily at first base and boasts a healthy .973 fielding percentage on the year.

Brown is an outfielder from Denton, Md. and has seen action in 16 games this season. The junior has already set a career high in stolen bases with six bags swiped this season and recorded his second multi-hit contest of the season in a loss to Mount St. Mary’s on April 4.

The Generals open the 2023 season on the road against the Charlottesville Tomsox on on Thursday June 1 at 7 p.m.

 

 


Waynesboro Welcomes Price Back for 2023

WAYNESBORO, Va. – Standout pitcher from a year ago, J.D. Price will be returning to Waynesboro to play for the Generals for the 2023 season.

 

Price saw action in 10 games for the Generals a season ago, mostly out of the bullpen. The Knoxville, Tenn. native recorded a 2-2 record in 2022 and recorded a save in a 9-6 win over Front Royal on June 26. In total, he tallied 36.0 innings pitched last season and recorded 25 strikeouts in the regular season and playoffs combined to rank among the team leaders.

 

The right-handed pitcher is currently attending Southern Union Community College in Alabama.


Two DBU Pitchers Are Heading to Waynesboro

Two Dallas Baptist pitchers are headed to Waynesboro for 2022. Elijah Pleasants and Bubba Hall will make the trip to the valley.

This season, two right-handed arms will be joining the Generals from Dallas Baptist University. Bubba Hall and Elijah Pleasants will make the trip to Waynesboro for the summer.

 

Hall is coming off of his first season in Dallas after transferring from Southern Illinois University. During his 2022 season for DBU, Hall has tallied a 3-2 record in 24 appearances all out of the bullpen. Hitters have not faired well against the Hurley, Mississippi native as they are hitting .184 against him. 

 

Much like Hall, Pleasants is coming off of his first season or DBU after transferring from Tennessee. The Clarksville, Tennessee native has seen action in seven contests including one start. Pleasants has received some MLB attention during and prior to his collegiate career as he was a 36th round selection by the Kansas City Royals in 2018 and also played in the MLB Draft League last summer.

 

Dallas Baptist currently sits with a 33-20-1 record and is set to begin play in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament this weekend. The Patriots were MVC Champions in 2021 for the fourth time in program history.

 

The Generals season gets underway on June 3 as the Staunton Braves visit. Start time is set for 7 p.m.


Three Patriots Are Joining the Generals

Three Patriots will be joining the Generals for 2022 from the College of Central Florida. INF Caleb Cali, INF Edrick Felix and OF Victor Castillo are heading to Waynesboro.

Cali will join the Generals coming off of his freshman year for the Patriots. The Montverde, Florida native has seen action in 58 games and has tallied a team-best .440 batting average. Cali also ranks second on the team in RBI (75) and home runs (16). Cali was recently named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts in their conference tournament.

 

Felix also joins the Gens after a successful 2022 campaign for the Patriots. The Orlando, Florida native ranks just ahead of Cali in home runs (17) and RBI (77) as he leads the Patriots in both departments up to this point in the season. Felix received the Bob Zelenski Award as he was named the conference tournament’s most outstanding player as he went 7 for 15 at the plate during the event. Felix will be transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall.

 

Castillo comes to Waynesboro after his second season with the Patriots. Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, he has stolen five bases in six attempts this spring and tallied a .372 batting average in 50 games. Castillo will be transferring to nearby Liberty University in the fall.

 

These three will join the two members of the Patriots coaching staff who are also making the trip to Waynesboro for 2022. Zac Cole will serve as the Head Coach once again for 2022 and Jason Rose will join the staff as well.

 

The Patriots are in the middle of one of their best seasons to date recently winning the FCSAA Championship and earning a bid to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado which will begin May 28.

 

The Generals season will begin on June 3 as the Staunton Braves visit in a cross-county clash. Action is set to start at 7 p.m.


Pair of Gamecocks Headed to Waynesboro

Thad Ector and Jalen Vasquez will be joining the Generals for the 2022 campaign from the University of South Carolina. The Generals will open the season on June 3 at 7 p.m. as they host the Staunton Braves.

A pair of Gamecocks are headed to Waynesboro for 2022. INF Jalen Vasquez and OF Thad Ector will make the trip to the Shenandoah Valley for the summer from the University of South Carolina.

 

Vasquez comes to the Generals off of his second season in the SEC. The North Charleston, South Carolina native has seen action in 28 contests for the Gamecocks this spring in clueing six starts. At the plate, Vasquez has a .233 batting average and five RBIs. An All-SEC academic selection in 2021, Vasquez has also seen action on the mound this season appearing in four contests.

 

Ector will make the trip to Waynesboro following his freshman season for the Gamecocks. In 17 games Ector has tallied an RBI and three stolen bases and has yet to be caught on the basepaths in 2022. The Tyrone, Georgia native was the top-ranked outfielder according to Perfect Game in the peach state in the class of 2021.

 

The Gamecocks sit at an even 27-27 so far in 2022 but have series wins over ranked opponents such as Texas and Vanderbilt. They will begin SEC tournament play next week.

 

The 2022 Generals season will get underway on June 3 as the Staunton Braves come to town for a 7 p.m. matchup.


Three Eagles Pitchers Headed to Waynesboro

Three Faulkner pitchers will be joining the Generals for the 2022 campaign. J.C. Toro, Alex Saldana and Ty Correa will make the trip from Montgomery, Alabama to Waynesboro.

The Eagles are playing in the regional round of the NAIA Baseball Tournament this week as they secured an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the SSAC championship in walk-off fashion. Faulkner has found itself ranked among the top 25 for most of the season. 

 

Toro is coming off of his second season at Faulkner and has seen action in 15 games. The Puerto Rico native has tallied a 5-2 record in 80 innings pitched. Toro also has a career-high 78 strikeouts to his credit this season.

 

Saldana has recorded 60.2 innings pitched and a 4-1 record in 13 appearances. The Panama native earned SCAC Pitcher of the Week on May 3 for his complete-game performance against Middle Georgia.

 

Correa stands at 6’9” and has tallied 13.2 innings in 2022. The Riverview, Florida native recorded a season-high four strikeouts on Apr. 1 against Stillman. Correa has also seen action at first base during his time at Faulkner. 

 

The Generals 2022 campaign begins on June 3 as the Generals host the Staunton Braves at 7 p.m.


Two Buccaneers Returning to Waynesboro

Two ETSU pitchers will be making the trip to Waynesboro for the 2022 season. RHP Zach Kirby and LHP Daulton Montagna will join the Generals.

Two pitchers will be returning to Waynesboro from ETSU for the 2022 season. Daulton Montagna and Zach Kirby will make the trip from Johnson City, TN to the Shenandoah Valley.

 

Montagna returns to the Valley League after pitching for the Generals in 2021. Last season Montagna appeared in 13 games and tallied two saves. The southpaw has appeared in 10 games for the Buccaneers this spring and has allowed a batting average against of .222. 

 

Kirby comes to Waynesboro for his third summer in 2022. During the 2021 campaign, Kirby led the Generals in strikeouts during the regular season with 35 in eight appearances. During his senior season at ETSU this spring, Kirby tallied a 2-2 record in 11 appearances including nine starts. The Upland, California native will join the Generals during the second half of the 2022 season.

 

First pitch for the 2022 season will be on June 3 at 7 p.m. as the Staunton Braves visit in a South Division matchup.
